Adding a picture ID

Saheli asks families for a government photo ID, and the Saheli team checks it before a companion is sent to a home. There are two places an ID can go: your account, and each care profile.

Why Saheli asks

Companions visit people in their homes, and families invite them in. Checking a photo ID confirms that you, and the person receiving care, are who you say you are, and helps keep fake accounts and fraud off Saheli.

Your ID and the care profile's ID

If the care profile is for you, your own ID is the one that counts, so you only add it once.

  • Your picture ID is your own, kept in your account. Once it is checked, you can message companions.
  • A care profile's picture ID belongs to the person receiving care. Each care profile needs one checked before you can book a companion for that person.

Adding your own ID

  1. Select Account in the menu, then the Picture ID tab.
  2. Choose a photo or scan of your ID.
  3. Select Add ID.

Adding an ID to a care profile

A new care profile is created together with its ID. To add or change one later, open the care profile, select Edit profile, and go to the Picture ID tab.

For someone else, add their own photo ID and tick the box to confirm you have their permission to share it. If they have no photo ID of their own, for example a young child, select Use my ID instead and your ID stands in for them.

Which IDs work

A driver's licence, passport, provincial photo card, or other government photo ID. A health card does not count.

Upload a clear photo (JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC) or a PDF, up to 10 MB.

When the Saheli team checks it

Once an ID is on file, the tab says it is waiting for Saheli staff to check it. When they have, it says Checked by Saheli staff and Saheli lets you know.

If the photo is hard to read, Saheli asks you for another look. Choose a clearer photo and select Replace ID.

What you need to message and to book

If something is missing, your home page lists it with a link to where you add it.

  • Browsing companions: nothing. Anyone can search and read profiles.
  • Messaging: your own ID checked, or one care profile that is ready to book.
  • Booking: the care profile you are booking for is ready, including a checked picture ID.

How the ID is protected

Only Saheli staff can open an ID. Companions do not see it; once a care profile's ID is checked, they see that the care profile has been checked.

Saheli uses the ID only to confirm who someone is, and deletes it when you close your account or archive the care profile.
