About
About Saheli
Saheli is a Canadian marketplace that connects families, and the people they care for, with vetted companions for everyday, non-medical care. Families choose a companion for the language, the food, and the traditions that already feel like home.
Who Saheli is for
Saheli is not defined by age. Families use it to arrange support for people living independently, children and families, people recovering at home after surgery, illness or a hospital stay, and people living with disabilities. A companion can go with someone to appointments and treatment visits, give families and caregivers a break, and offer everyday support to newcomers in their own language and culture. Hospitals, care homes, community groups and employers can point the people they serve to Saheli. The care is always non-medical.
How the marketplace works
Saheli has two sides. Families browse companion profiles and choose who to contact. Nobody is assigned to them. They can filter by language, cultural community, services, gender, and location, and they can arrange care for themselves or for someone they care about.
Companions are independent contractors who have completed a full profile, been reviewed by a member of the Saheli team, and been accepted. They set their own rates, review each family request, and decide which conversations and engagements to take.
What companions do
- Time together: conversation, games, walks, and the small routines of a day.
- Help at home: cooking, light tidying, laundry, errands, and reminders.
- Getting out: company at appointments, community gatherings, or the park.
What companions do not do
Saheli is not medical or regulated home care. Companions must refuse injections, wound care, and medication decisions; lifting or transferring someone who cannot bear their own weight; handling money or signing documents for a family; and any task that needs a regulated health professional. In an emergency, families call 911.
How vetting works
Every companion applies and is interviewed by a member of our team before they can appear on Saheli. When a companion provides a criminal record check, we review it ourselves, and their profile carries a record-checked badge.
Checks add useful facts. They do not guarantee that a person will suit every family, so families still meet and choose for themselves.
How pricing works
Each companion sets their own hourly rate, and families see it on the profile before they book. Saheli adds a service fee to the family's total, shown as its own line before checkout. The companion keeps their full listed rate. Payments run through Saheli, and companions are paid out to their own bank account.
